Our Topic this term is....

Are you listening? What is 27 plus 45?

Come on, faster now! We haven’t got all day!

Find out about super strict schools by travelling back in time to a Victorian classroom. Make sure that you’re on your best behaviour though, as punishments are unquestionably terrible. Discover a time when great minds thought new thoughts and ingenious inventors created so many things that we take for granted today: the electric light bulb, the telephone and the first flushing toilet. Let’s forge ahead to research a time when Victoria was Queen and Albert was Prince Consort, and when some people lived in slums while others prospered.

All aboard as we inspect the railway network and how this was developed and improved through time and the impact on Britain.

Full steam ahead to the Victorian age.

Take a look at our curriculum newsletter and knowledge organiser for this topic.

Please find information for parents regarding the end of Key Stage 2 Year 6 SATs tests.

If you require any more information, feel free to get in contact with the Year 6 Team.

Each week, Year 6 will have the following homework tasks to complete:

  •  Spellings - key words that they have been learning in the week are sent home on a Friday to prepare for a spelling test on Monday.

  •  Maths Whizz - for at least 30 minutes.

  •  Reading - at least 5 times a week at home, this can be on MyOn or with a school reading book.

  •  Class Dojo - complete the worksheet uploaded to your Class Dojo account.

If there are any issues with the completion of the homework tasks set each week, please contact your child's class teacher.

It is very important that you are able to rapidly recall your times tables up to 12 x 12. We will be practising our times tables in school on a daily basis to improve our mental arithmetic.

Remember, we are always looking for our top TTRS scorer and there are extra rewards for those who earn the most coins each week! This is a fun and interactive way to help you learn your times tables!

Here is a multiplication grid to help you learn your times tables:

We ask that Year 6 are reading for a minimum of 20 minutes each day - this can be your school ZPD reading book, a book from MyOn or any other time of text - a newspaper, magazine, website article or your own reading book.

This can be independent reading - without reading to an adult - although if possible, please read to an adult at least once a week and record this in your reading record.

Once you have completed a school reading book with a ZPD sticker, then you can complete the Reading Quiz to gain points on the Accelerated Reader website here:

Wanting some inspiration about what to read?

Check out this website with suggested books for Key Stage 2:

It is expected that the children can spell the majority of the words on this list by the time they reach the end of Key Stage 2.

Year 5/6 Word List

It is expected that pupils come to school wearing their PE kit.

This should consist of the following;

  •  A plain white t-shirt
  •  Navy blue/Black shorts (or during the colder months, children can wear tracksuit bottoms)
  •  Trainers

*Children can also wear a hoodie for outdoor lessons during the colder months.

Our PE days in Year 6 are Tuesday (outdoor) and Friday (indoor), if this changes then you will be contacted by your child's class teacher.

All earrings need to be removed (due to Derbyshire County Council policy, we can no longer provide tape to cover them) plus a bobble must be provided to tie back long hair.

Please could you ensure all items of PE kit are clearly labelled with your child's name.

We will keep you up to date with reminders via Class Dojo and Parent Hub throughout the year.

If you have any questions or concern, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are more than happy to help wherever we can.

You can contact us via phone (the school telephone number is 01246 822324) or Class Dojo
